Our names are Lisa Zaccaglini and Mike Shuster. We met at Stanford University while were both pursuing our Master degrees in fine arts. As artists, we traveled throughout Europe, living in Paris briefly, all the while starting our days off with muesli – a traditional European breakfast cereal developed in Switzerland at the turn of the century. We fell in love with muesli and, after returning home, would search high and low for similar healthy breakfast choices. Sadly, none could match that perfect the European flavor and quality. All of the muesli brands we found were neither fresh nor organic, never had enough fruits and nuts in the recipe, and always came chock full of artificial sweeteners!
Later, we eventually found ourselves in beautiful upstate New York after living in NYC for about 10 years. We transformed an abandoned Italian boarding house, known as the Imperiali Gardens, situated on 80 beautiful acres into our present-day home and organic gardens. It is no mere coincidence that we found ourselves here in Historic Sharon Springs, which was also made famous at the turn of the century as a world-class destination for its healing spa waters. As people were first discovering the delicious benefits of muesli in Europe, they were also coming to Sharon Springs for relaxation and healing!
We believe that it was the magical intervention of Sharon Spring’s history that helped us to create Mu Mu Muesli. Our passion for beauty, food, and nutritional healing have all intersected here and blended together as wonderfully as the ingredients in our “better than European” muesli blend.
Mu Mu Muesli is celebrating her 13th anniversary this year and it has been an honor to be able to share our love with all of you.
